BJMP HISTORY

On January 2, 1991, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology was created thru Republic Act 6975 as a line Bureau under the Department of Interior and Local Government. The Jail Bureau is the upgraded version of its forerunner, the Office of Jail Management and Penology of the defunct PC/INP last headed by BRIG GEN Arsenio E. Concepcion. As mandated by law, the BJMP shall operate under the reorganized Department of the Interior and Local Government. Starting from scratch with 500 personnel in 1991 the BJMP weaned from its mother PC/INP as a mere component, to become a full-fledged bureau. Director Charles S. Mondejar took his oath of office on July 1 of 1991 as the first Chief of the Bureau. The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology supervises and controls all district, city and municipal jails.

BJMP-BARMM HISTORY

Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), settled in Southern Mindanao, is bounded on the north side by the Sulu Sea, on the south by the cities of Tacurong and Koronadal, the provinces of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat. While on the west by the Mindanao Sea and the east by the city of Zamboanga and provinces of Zamboanga Del Sur and Lanao Del Norte. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is headed by a Chief Minister and geographically comprising of six (6) widely separated provinces located at Southern central part of Mindanao. These provinces are Lanao Del Sur and Maguindanao located in Southern part of Mindanao. While Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Sulu provinces are located at South Western part of Mindanao. The BJMP-BARMM Regional Office was established on July 1992 at the Old INPRTC 12, Camp Gen Salipada Pendatun, Parang, Maguindanao. The first Regional Director was JCINSP MEDITAR R DIPANGAMPONG. On January 1994, this office was transferred to Katiang Building, Datu Liwa Candao Street, Rosary Heights 3, Cotabato City. After a year, the Officer-In-Charge of the BJMPRO � BARMM decided to transfer its Regional office to Hadji Zailon Wahab Building, Rajah Tabunaway Boulevard, Cotabato City. A month thereafter, the said office transferred again to another building at the same area due to the unintentional burning of the rear side portion of the Regional Office. On September 1, 1995, the Regional Office returned to Zailon Wahab Building after renovation of the affected part of the building. Further on 2012, aforementioned office relocated at No. 28, Oblates Drive, Corner Rosales Street, Rosary Heights 6, Cotabato City to present.
